Obama At National Prayer Breakfast: ’People Committed Terrible Deeds In The Name of Christ’

…a moronic attempt at moral equivalency between Islam and Christianity

The above headline appeared on the Brietbart web site HERE with the article quoted in full below this commentary.

I’ve encountered similar claims mostly from liberals (occasionally by others) ignorant of Islam and its history.  They usually have an agenda against all religion or are defenders of Islam.

Here is my reaction to Obama’s comments:

Where to begin.

First, Obama is a disingenuous lying tool twisting facts and religion to suit his own purposes of defending and promoting Islam.

Second, the Crusades he referred to BEGAN AFTER 400 years of Islamic persecution, attacks, and conquests.  Christians of the day observed a huge amount of patience and restraint.  Even then, there were a fraction of counterattacks carried out by Christians compared to the number of initial Islamic attacks and conquests. (Check out the video at the end of this blog.)

Third, Islam has immutably built into its religious/ideological/political texts commands of hate, superiority, intolerance and conquest. What Muslims are known for today (jihad, terror and intolerance of other faiths) is their practice of ORTHODOX Islam, the manner in which Muslim leaders and followers have been practicing what Muhammad practiced and taught since its inception 600 years after Christ.

Here is one current example from Newsmax…

ISIS has established a near-impregnable base of support within Iraq and Syria with spectacular appeal to many of the world's Sunni Muslims, according to a new analysis relying on dozens of interviews with jihadists and U.S. military experts. The group uses certain texts and in-house clerics to provide religious justification for their violence, particularly a book called "The Management of Savagery," which argues that overwhelming brutality is a useful tool in confronting the United States. "These beliefs are not on the margins -- they are absolutely mainstream. They are preached by mosques across the world, particularly in the Middle East.”

Any violence Christians have practiced in the name of Christ has been either random outlier events counter to the orthodox teachings of Christianity, or were performed in a relatively brief period of history to defend their existence following 400 years of Muslim attacks and conquest.

Do Christians say and do things because “God told them to?”  Of course they do.  But the history of what Muslims have done and what Christians have done in the names of their respective religions are starkly different.  What is more significant is what each religion’s texts, orthodoxies, and leaders say they should or should not do.

Why would Obama attempt this comparison?  To defend Islam, of course.  His second “slip of the tongue” concerning as he put it a few years ago, “my Muslim faith”, occurred during the prayer breakfast when he said,

“We are summoned to push back against those who would distort OUR RELIGION for their nihilistic ends.”

The “our religion” that he feels summoned to push back to defend is Islam.

Bottom line:  In Islam, violence, intolerance, jihad, terror, and conquest are orthodox - the norm - throughout its history.  In Christianity these behaviors are the exception throughout its history.
Obama is a jackass trying to portray the beliefs of these religions in terms of moral equivalents. They are morally opposite belief systems.

It is heartening to see the huge number of comments to this article on the Breitbart web site who recognize Obamas attempts at moral equivalency and Christian bashing.

Here is the Breitbart article in full:

At the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama reminded attendees that violence rooted in religion isn’t exclusive to Islam, but has been carried out by Christians as well.

Obama said that even though religion is a source for good around the world, there will always be people willing to “hijack religion for their own murderous ends.”

“Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” Obama said. “In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”

Obama also denounced Islamic State terrorists for professing to stand up for Islam when they were actually “betraying it.”

“We see ISIL, a brutal vicious death cult that in the name of religion carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism,” he said criticizing them for “claiming the mantle of religious authority for such actions.”

For those wanting a refresher on the sequence of events surrounding the Crusades, take 45 minutes to view this video by Bill Warner showing exactly what led up to the long overdue response of Christians in the face of 400 years of Islamic conquest.  His website is www.PoliticalIslam.com
