The “Threat Journal” website posed a “turning point” that led to the failure of Afghan forces against the Taliban.
Here is their article, below, with the REAL turning points below that:
Departure of Private Contractors Was a Turning Point in Afghan Military’s Collapse ~ Threat Journal
AUGUST 18, 2021
Military analysts trying to understand the stunning collapse of the Afghan military are increasingly pointing to the departure of U.S. government contractors starting a month ago as one of the key turning points.
The Afghans had relied on contractors for everything from training and gear maintenance to preparing them for intelligence gathering and close air support in their battles against Taliban fighters.
Thousands of those contractors—often military veterans who work for private security firms—left Afghanistan weeks ago and deployed elsewhere in the region or in the Persian Gulf.
Now for the REAL turning points:
The “turning point” was the first year we decided to go in…failing to acknowledge and understand the Islamic ideology/doctrine/mindset. Failing that understanding we were destined for failure.
The “turning point” was the pervasive attitude of our leaders, at the very beginning and going back to the Korean War through to Vietnam, that we will not do what is necessary to win.
The “turning point” was our “rules of engagement”: Don’t provoke. Don’t offend. Respect the culture. Don’t fire until fired upon. Buddy up with those who might already hate and want to destroy the West.
The “turning point” was when we first believed that we could turn a 2,500 year old tribal culture into a self-governing democracy.
All of these turning points, from the very beginning, handcuffed our military and made our failure certain.
