Paul Ryan and John Boehner are the whores, the Republic Party is the whore’s customer, and the American people are still getting screwed.
This once again proves that “party” comes before “people.”
And it proves that compromise is more important than principle. And the result is an ever-growing, ever unrecoverable budget deficit that will create an ever greater fiscal cataclysm down the road.
Yet there are those who keep insisting that we have to compromise – we have to play the game or we will be excluded from the game. We have to go along to get along. That kind of “group think” will not result in change until AFTER we’ve reached the precipice. It is not merely the blind leading the blind, it is the irresponsible leading the compromisers who really know better but who are gutless.
The Ryan-Boehner-led Republicans are the Neville Chamberlains of Congress. They are wishful-thinking their way to relevance and fiscal peace. They are oblivious to the fact that their “fiscal peace” is merely “peace in our time”, meaning peace for the moment leading inevitably to a fiscal disaster.
It’s fine and good to compromise when there is little at stake. But that is not the case with the spending addiction rampant in Congress.
At what point will our elected representatives (and compromise-addicted electorate) get it?
